World Forest Day was celebrated in Karaikudi, Sivagangai district, under the initiative of the National Green Corps.

The event was presided over by Britto, the Sivagangai district coordinator of the National Green Corps. The headmaster of Koviloor Government Higher Secondary School, Ramar, led the event, while graduate teacher Jaganathan delivered the welcome address.

Tamil Nadu Science Movement Sivagangai District Secretary Arokiyasamy, in his speech, highlighted that the theme for 2025 is Forests and Food, emphasizing the deep connection between forests and global security. He stated that in India, forests are deeply intertwined with culture, economy, and biodiversity. In 2012, the United Nations designated March 21 as World Forest Day to raise awareness globally about forest conservation. Forests comprise an interconnected system of plants, animals, birds, insects, and microorganisms.

He encouraged different sections of society to contribute to forest conservation:

Families should visit nearby forest areas on World Forest Day to appreciate nature and express gratitude for the benefits forests provide.

Students should join the National Green Corps or environmental clubs in their schools and colleges, planting and protecting trees in their campus.

Entrepreneurs should plant trees within their industrial premises to contribute to a greener environment.

"Let’s plant trees and increase greenery. Let’s adorn our proud Tamil land with a green cover. By protecting forests every day, we ensure the well-being of ourselves and future generations," he said.

Art teacher Selvam delivered the vote of thanks. A field trip to the forest was conducted as part of the event. Headmaster Rajendran, teachers Ganesan and Arokiyasamy, photographer John, and students participated in the celebration.
