BIS Coimbatore conducted Sensitization Programme for PWD Engineers

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore Branch Office, organized a Sensitization Programme for Engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD) and Water Resources Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. The programme saw the active participation of 32 departmental officials, comprising several Assistant Engineers and a few Executive Engineers.


The objective of the programme was to enhance awareness on the relevance, application, and implementation of Indian Standards in civil engineering and related works, while also providing an overview of the broader activities and mandate of BIS in promoting standardization and quality assurance.


The session commenced with the welcome address by Smt. Gayathri, Deputy Chief Engineer, PWD. 


Inaugural address was delivered by Smt. G. Bhavani, Scientist-F & Head, Coimbatore Branch Office, who highlighted the critical role of Indian Standards in ensuring infrastructure safety, sustainability, and compliance.  Keynote address was presented by Shri Rino John S, Scientist-D. who briefed the participants about various activities of BIS and the importance of Indian Standards for a PWD Engineer.


Participants expressed appreciation for the insights gained and affirmed their commitment to incorporating the standards into their professional practices. Furthermore, they conveyed their interest in attending the upcoming two-day training programme offered by BIS for a more in-depth understanding
