The Fat Boy, a homegrown Chennai brand and one of the first to introduce authentic woodfired pizzas to the city, is set to expand with two new outlets in OMR and Porur over the next six months. Since onboarding on Zomato, the brand has achieved an impressive 24.7× growth in yearly order volumes, rising from just over 1,400 in 2019 to nearly 35,700 in 2024. Today, it has emerged as one of the city’s most loved pizza destinations, driven by strong online demand alongside steady offline growth.
Speaking on their journey, Raman Singh, Founder, The Fat Boy, said: “Passion, a love for good food, and the joy of serving it – that’s where it all began. With Zomato’s support, we’ve gone from being a hidden gem to becoming Chennai’s favourite pizza.”
Sharing his perspective, Aditya Mangla, CEO – Food Delivery Business, Eternal, added: “It’s inspiring to see brands like The Fat Boy grow rapidly while staying true to cultural roots. We are proud to support their journey with tools, insights, and visibility that help them serve customers better.”
The Fat Boy’s story began with Raman Singh and Randeep Kaur, who, after travelling across India, noticed the popularity of woodfired pizzas in Bangalore and decided to bring the experience to Chennai, where it was still rare. With a loyal team committed to authentic taste, freshness, and consistency, the brand quickly built a reputation for delivering pizzas that delight customers with every bite. Today, The Fat Boy operates three outlets in Chennai and is preparing to expand with two more, while staying true to its mission of serving great food with passion, preserving authenticity, and celebrating teamwork. Since joining Zomato, the brand has benefited from access to its marketing tools, targeted campaigns, discovery features, and promotional drives, helping it expand its reach and strengthen customer connections.
To further support restaurants like The Fat Boy, Zomato has introduced initiatives such as a DIY onboarding tool that allows restaurants to go live on the platform in just 15 minutes, along with the Restaurant Services Hub, a curated marketplace offering verified vendors for licensing, staffing, and hygiene audits. In select cities, new restaurants also enjoy 0% commission for the first 30 days, with additional credits for advertising and Hyperpure services. As of Q1 FY26, Zomato has an average of 313,000 monthly active restaurant partners, highlighting its role in enabling local food brands to scale quickly and sustainably.
