In a landmark move under Operation Sindhoor, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, under the directive of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signed an MoU with HRDS India to construct 1,500 smart homes for families affected by terrorism in Pahalgam and other parts of Kashmir. The agreement was signed at Raj Bhavan, Srinagar in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Spokespersons Ramesh Kumar IAS (Divisional Commissioner, Jammu), Anshul Garg IAS (Additional Commissioner, Kashmir), and Aji Krishnan (Founder Secretary, HRDS India) formalized the initiative.
Each home will be a 702 sq. ft. two-storey unit with three bedrooms, equipped with modern facilities. Beneficiaries include families of terror attack victims since 1947, those whose homes were destroyed in floods, and the next of kin of the deceased. The project includes free internet (via BSNL), 30-year structural guarantee, health check-ups, 15-year life insurance for family members, monthly volunteer visits, and repainting of homes every 5 years.
“This project is about rebuilding dreams and lives. It reflects the PM’s visionary leadership,” said LG Manoj Sinha. Construction will begin within a month. “We will ensure digital connectivity, monthly health visits, and awareness on government schemes and hygiene,” added HRDS India’s Aji Krishnan. HRDS India, active in 20 states, brings decades of experience in tribal and marginalized community development, making this a first-of-its-kind national model for terror victim rehabilitation.
