JIPMER held the inaugural session for the 2025 batch of MBBS students on September 1, 2025 at 9 AM in the JIPMER Academic Centre Mini Auditorium. Students have taken admissions at JIPMER recently after successfully qualifying in NEET UG 2025 entrance examination and being allotted a seat in the institute by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), New Delhi.
JIPMER Puducherry and Karaikal campuses have MBBS seat strengths of 182 and 61 respectively. The session also included a ‘White coat ceremony’, in which the students donned white coats for the first time while their teachers witnessed and assisted them. The session was presided over by Prof. Vir Singh Negi, Director, Prof. Vikram Kate, Dean (Academic), Prof. DM Thappa, Dean (Research), Prof. LN Dorairajan, Medical Superintendent, Prof. Ravikumar Chittoria, Acting Registrar, and Dr. Latha Chaturvedula, Student Advisor. Several faculty members from the institute participated in the event.
Through her virtual message, Prof. Chitra Sarkar, President of JIPMER, quoted Sir William Osler’s saying and advised students to embark on a journey that will call upon not only their intellect, but also their compassion, integrity, humility, and resilience. Prof. Vir Singh Negi enumerated various resources available in the institute for learning and the steps taken by the administration for the mental well-being of students. He called upon students to maintain focus on their studies throughout the course. He also emphasised that the institution is an equal opportunity campus with no place for discrimination based on gender, race, religion, caste, sexual orientation, disability, etc. The event was telecast live to parents.
