The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in collaboration with the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Administration, convened a review meeting on 04 November 2025 for Joint Mock Exercise on Earthquake and Tsunami in the island region.

The meeting was chaired by Ms. Chanchal Yadav, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, at Aapda Prabandhan Bhawan, Sri Vijaya Puram. The review meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District, along with senior officials from NDMA, Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Shipping, Forest, Electricity, PWD, and other key departments.

The review meeting focused on assessing the preparedness of three earthquake-prone districts — Sri Vijaya Puram, Swaraj Dweep, and Little Andaman. Detailed discussions were held on the functionality of State and District Emergency Operation Centres (SEOC and DEOCs), readiness of evacuation camps, awareness generation through mock drills, and community participation in disaster preparedness activities.

Earlier in the day, mock drills were conducted at various locations across the islands, witnessing active participation of 32,989 students. The Aapda Prabandhan Bhawan has also established a 24×7 State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) to monitor and coordinate preparedness measures across the island region.

Commending the efforts of all participating departments, Ms. Chanchal Yadav expressed appreciation for their coordinated approach and dedication. She also encouraged the public to actively participate in future mock drills to enhance community resilience and ensure collective preparedness in the event of natural disasters. Ms. Yadav asked public to use the SEOC Helpline Number "1070" during emergency.
