Incontinence is increasingly affecting Indians well before advanced old age, with those between 50 and 70 reporting growing lifestyle disruptions due to bladder leakage. Despite remaining socially and professionally active, many individuals hesitate to seek solutions because of stigma and discomfort around discussing the condition. Friends Adult Diapers, a leading name in adult hygiene care, notes that this reluctance is contributing to quiet social withdrawal across the segment.
A recent study of 337 respondents found reduced participation in social gatherings, frequent restroom visits, sleep disturbances, and altered daily routines. Many participants shared that fear of leakage and lack of restroom access have led them to avoid travel, celebrations, and public outings. Among those aged 70 and above, resistance to adopting adult diapers remains particularly strong, delaying effective management.
Kartik Johari, Chief Marketing and Growth Officer at Nobel Hygiene, emphasised, “Bladder leakage is manageable, yet hesitation often turns it into a barrier to confidence and independence. As families and as an industry, we must foster open conversations that prioritise dignity and active living.”
Medical professionals highlight that incontinence can stem from pelvic muscle weakness, diabetes, prostate issues, menopause-related changes, neurological conditions, or medication side effects. With timely intervention, lifestyle changes, and reliable hygiene solutions, individuals can maintain comfort and continue participating fully in everyday life.
As India’s ageing population grows, awareness and empathy will be key to ensuring that no one chooses isolation over engagement.
