Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) has inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Survey of India (SoI) aimed at scaling up geospatial research and training.

The MoU was signed between Prof. R. Thirumurugan, Registrar, CUTN and Ch.Venkatesvara Rao, Director, SoI, in the presence of Prof. M. Krishnan, Vice Chancellor, CUTN. Statutory authorities including Prof Sulochana Shekhar, Controller of Examinations, Dr. R Parameswaran, Librarian and faculty members including Prof S. Nagarajan, Dean Academics, Dr. Balasubramani K, Head, Dept. of Geography were present during the ceremony.

Under the National Geospatial Policy (NGP) 2022 framework, the Survey of India bears the critical national responsibility of exploring and mapping the country's domain to generate authoritative foundational geospatial datasets, spanning Geodetic Reference Frames, high-resolution orthoimagery, Digital Elevation Models (DEM), administrative boundaries, and toponymy, vital for India's integrated development, economic prosperity, and territorial sovereignty.

This MoU will bridge the gap between academic theory and real-time execution by actively involving CUTN students and research scholars in the SoI's national mapping projects and evaluation schemes through internships, thereby creating a highly skilled pool of tech-ready professionals. Beyond offering hands-on internships for regular degree students at CUTN, Survey of India will provide expert technical guidance to the university for designing contemporary, industry-aligned curricula, while both institutions will jointly share emerging technologies, exchange innovative ideas, and host collaborative seminars and workshops.
