The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) has invited applications for the second batch of its M.Tech programme in Flood and Water Resources Management, aimed at working professionals and graduates seeking advanced expertise in water resource management and flood mitigation.

Offered by the Department of Civil Engineering, the programme will be conducted in a hybrid mode, with online classes and on-campus laboratory sessions and final examinations at IIT Guwahati. The application process is currently open, and interested candidates can apply until July 15, 2026. Classes are scheduled to commence on August 10, 2026.

A major attraction of the programme is that applicants are not required to possess a GATE score. Admissions will be based on a written test and/or interview conducted by the department.

According to Prof. Hemant B. Kaushik, Dean of Outreach Education and Skilling at IIT Guwahati, the programme has been designed to address growing challenges related to floods, climate variability, water scarcity and sustainable development. He noted that the course would equip participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills to develop effective solutions for water management and climate resilience.

The two-year programme, which can be extended up to five years, follows a trimester-based system and offers flexibility through multi-entry and multi-exit options. All lectures will be delivered online and recorded, enabling learners to study at their own pace while continuing their professional commitments.

Candidates must possess a four-year Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or allied disciplines with at least 60 per cent marks or a 6.0 CPI, along with a minimum of one year of professional experience in the water resources sector.

Students can earn a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, Master of Science (Engineering), or the final M.Tech degree depending on the stage of completion. Graduates will gain expertise in hydrological modelling, GIS, remote sensing and flood forecasting, preparing them for careers in government agencies, international organisations, consultancy firms and research institutions working in water and climate resilience sectors.
