Yoga and Nature Awareness Programme Held at Gandhigramam School

In connection with the upcoming International Yoga Day, a Yoga and Nature Awareness Programme was conducted for students at Thambithottam Higher Secondary School in Gandhigramam. Yoga and Naturopathy practitioners from the Chinnalapatti Government Community Health Centre provided training and awareness sessions to the students.


The 12th International Yoga Day will be observed on June 21. To promote awareness about yoga and naturopathy, various educational programmes are being conducted across Tamil Nadu. In Dindigul district, under the directions of the District Collector and District Siddha Medical Officer Dr. Sivakumar, the Chinnalapatti Government Health Centre has been organizing awareness campaigns in schools, old-age homes, hospitals, and nursing colleges.


As part of these initiatives, Yoga and Naturopathy doctors Dr. K. Amsalakshmi and Dr. M. Sivanandhini have been conducting awareness programmes in and around Chinnalapatti.


The event at Thambithottam Higher Secondary School began at 9 a.m. on Monday under the leadership of Headmistress R.S. Girija, while Assistant Headmistress S. Kalavathi presided over the programme.


During the session, Dr. Amsalakshmi and Dr. Sivanandhini explained the numerous health benefits of practicing yoga regularly. Training doctor T. Meenasri demonstrated several yoga postures and breathing exercises and guided students through practical sessions.


The yoga practices demonstrated included:


  • Vrikshasana (Tree Pose)
  • Veerabhadrasana (Warrior Pose)
  • Utkatasana (Chair Pose)
  • Trikonasana (Triangle Pose)
  • Paschimottanasana
  • Gomukhasana
  • Ushtrasana (Camel Pose)
  • Vajrasana
  • Sheetali Pranayama
  • Chandra Bhedana Breathing
  • Surya Bhedana Breathing


Students were encouraged to perform the exercises and learn about their physical and mental health benefits.


The programme was attended by teachers of the school, Yoga Therapy Medical Assistant P. Vinodhini, and several other staff members. The vote of thanks was delivered by Physical Education Teacher Deepa.


The event proved beneficial not only for the students but also for the teaching staff, helping create greater awareness about the importance of yoga, natural health practices, and overall well-being.
