A traditional bullock cart boundary race was held at Thenmaappattu village, near Tiruppathur in Sivaganga district, as part of the village temple festival, drawing enthusiastic participation and large crowds.
The competition was conducted in two categories. Nine pairs of bullocks competed in the large bullock category, while 16 pairs took part in the small bullock category, bringing the total number of participants to 25 bullock cart teams.
The race was held along the Tiruppathur–Sivaganga Road, with participants arriving from Sivaganga, Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, and Pudukkottai districts.
The fast-paced contest thrilled spectators as the bullock carts raced ahead, with teams overtaking one another in an exciting display of speed and skill. Adding to the excitement, a herd of free-roaming cattle that had been wandering along the road unexpectedly joined the race route for a short distance, drawing cheers and laughter from the gathered crowd.
At the conclusion of the event, the owners and drivers of the top four finishing bullock carts were honoured with cash prizes by the temple festival committee in recognition of their performances.
