A grand function featuring the distribution of welfare assistance, a Rangoli (Kolam) competition, and a beauty contest for Manjuvirattu bulls was held at the Semmozhi Park premises near Anna Salai in Tiruppathur, Sivaganga district, to mark the 57th birthday of Singapore-based businessman and education philanthropist Duwar Chandrasekar. The event was presided over by former minister K. R. Periyakaruppan.
The programme began with a Rangoli competition aimed at encouraging women to showcase their artistic talents through creative designs on various themes.
This was followed by a beauty contest for Manjuvirattu bulls, a traditional symbol of Tamil culture and a celebrated rural sporting heritage. The bulls were judged on several criteria, including the shape of their hump, horn structure, physique, decoration, and ornamental bells. The best entries were selected based on these evaluation standards.
Former Minister K. R. Periyakaruppan distributed prizes to the winners of both the Rangoli and bull beauty competitions. The prizes included refrigerators, washing machines, LED televisions, various household appliances, and cash awards.
He also launched the distribution of welfare assistance, under which:
57 meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds received ₹5,000 each as educational assistance.
570 beneficiaries were provided with sarees and blankets.
A traditional six-course community feast was organised for 5,700 people.
The competitions attracted a large number of women participants and Manjuvirattu bull owners from surrounding areas. The event also drew a huge gathering of bull-taming enthusiasts, Manjuvirattu supporters, and members of the public, who witnessed the programmes with great enthusiasm.
The event was coordinated by District Sports Wing Organiser Narayanan, Tamil Nambi, John Kennedy, and office-bearers of the district, union, and town party units.
