GEM Hospital Launches India's First Dual-City Robotic Surgery Network

Business MInutes

GEM Hospital, a pioneer in gastroenterology, advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, has officially announced the launch of "OPERATION INFINITY". This groundbreaking initiative marks the unveiling of India's First Interconnected Dual-City Robotic Surgery Network, a massive leap forward for healthcare accessibility and real-time medical collaboration across metropolitan borders.

OPERATION INFINITY connects robotic surgery infrastructure between GEM Hospitals in Chennai and Coimbatore. This integration enables expert surgeons to provide real-time guidance, share diagnostic feeds, and collaborate dynamically on intricate procedures across distances without delay.

Key highlights of the network include:

Dual-Console Interconnectivity: Seamless transmission between Chennai and Coimbatore units, allowing for multi-city collaborative operations.

AI-Driven Engineering: Advanced platforms that assist in stability, predictive analytics, and enhanced precision during delicate gastrointestinal and oncological procedures.

Expanded Expert Access: Patients in regional hubs gain direct access to the collective expertise of GEM Hospital’s premier surgical teams without the burden of travel.

. Emergency surgeries performing to providing assistance

. Training through telementering

. Expert team in different location

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. C. Palanivelu, Chairman - GEM Hospital said, "By harnessing cutting-edge robotics, high-speed connectivity, and AI-driven surgical platforms, GEM Hospitals continues its commitment to transforming healthcare and improving patient outcomes. This network brings the master surgeon's hands directly to the patient, regardless of geographic division. We are building a future where premier medical expertise is completely decentralized."

Dr. P. Praveen Raj, Chief Executive Officer and Joint Managing Director, GEM Hospital, stated that geographical boundaries are no longer relevant in modern healthcare. "This marks a new milestone in the field of robotic surgery. In addition to enhancing surgical precision, patient safety, and overall patient care, this system will also create valuable training and learning opportunities for future surgeons. By connecting our Chennai and Coimbatore centres, we can ensure the highest standards of quality and precision in managing complex surgical procedures," he said.

By integrating multi-city infrastructure into a single, cohesive framework, GEM Hospital demonstrates that geographical limitations are no longer a barrier to receiving top-tier surgical precision.

As part of launching the Robotic Whipple Procedure for pancreatic cancer at GEM Hospital, Coimbatore, Dr. C. Palanivelu performed the resection, while Dr. Senthilnathan carried out the reconstruction. In another milestone, robotic excision of a choledochal cyst (congenital biliary cyst) was performed simultaneously by two surgical teams at GEM Hospital, Coimbatore, and GEM Hospital, Chennai, demonstrating the successful integration of robotic surgery across both centres.

New surgcial Robotic system is feachered with AI. Preopeartive planning, during surgery identification of cancer tissue, surgery navigation during surgery, risk analysis and also predicts anticipated complication helping us to take preventive management of complications.
