The Department of Computer Science at Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College (Autonomous), Pasumalai, Madurai, organised a Hackathon (Project Display for School Students) and a Science and Innovation Festival centred on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on Thursday.
The event was held from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. at the Moorthy Naidu–Andalammal Seminar Hall in the college library complex and witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students.
The chief guest, K.V. Govindaraj, M.A., M.Phil., B.Ed., a graduate teacher at Sethupathi Boys Higher Secondary School and an alumnus of Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College (1990–1993), delivered the keynote address, encouraging students to pursue innovation and scientific thinking.
The programme was presided over by Vijayaraghavan, Chairman of the college. Secretary Engineer Sridhar, Treasurer A. Azhwarsamy, Principal Dr. A. Ramasubbaiah, and Director C. Prabhu attended the event and extended their felicitations.
Under the theme "Build Together Using SDGs," students showcased innovative science and technology projects focusing on Green Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Climate Action, Smart Agriculture, and several other sustainability-driven concepts.
The event was coordinated by Dr. M. Karthika, Head of the Department of Computer Science. Dr. K. Pongayathri Devi and R. Madhumitha, Assistant Professors in the department, served as the event coordinators and oversaw the successful conduct of the programme.
A total of 235 students from 35 schools participated in the festival, displaying their scientific aptitude, creativity, and innovative ideas through a wide range of projects and presentations.
