Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar Hands Over Relief Fund to Lightning Victim's Family

Tamil Nadu Minister for Energy and Law C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar met the family of a farmer who was killed in a lightning strike in Madurai district and handed over government relief assistance.


The deceased, Sivalingam (55), son of Sivanandi, a farmer from Urappanur village in the A. Kokkulam Firka of Thirumangalam Taluk, died on June 27, 2026, after being struck by lightning while attempting to untie his cow in his agricultural field during heavy rainfall. The cow also died in the incident.


Following the directions of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, the Minister visited the bereaved family, expressed his condolences, and offered his support.


During the visit, he presented a cheque for ₹4 lakh to the legal heirs of the deceased under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) as ex gratia assistance for the loss of life.


He also handed over a cheque for ₹37,500 as compensation for the loss of the cow in the lightning strike.


The event was attended by Revenue Divisional Officer Sivajothi, Tahsildar Muthulakshmi, representatives of local bodies, and senior officials from the Revenue Department.
