Rapido’s Pink Mobility initiative has completed over 20 lakh bike taxi rides across Tamil Nadu through its Bike Pink feature, powered by 20,000 women captains and serving more than 10 lakh women passengers. The initiative is creating flexible livelihood opportunities for women while making everyday travel safer and more accessible, enabling greater participation in the state’s growing gig economy.
Among the inspiring women captains are Chennai-based Mahalakshmi Ramalingam and K Bhuvaneshwari, whose journeys highlight the impact of Rapido Pink Mobility. Mahalakshmi, a resident of Mogappair and a former karate instructor at institutions including Velammal Group of Schools, Chennai Public School, and Queen Mary’s College, joined Rapido Bike Pink two years ago. She has completed nearly 6,000 rides and uses her late-evening shifts to support women travelling from locations such as Koyambedu bus terminus and Perambur railway station. She aims to train more women in self-defence and establish an academy for women and girls.
K Bhuvaneshwari, another Chennai-based Rapido Bike Pink captain, uses her social media platform happy_livinghub to inspire women to explore gig work opportunities. With experience in digital marketing, sales, import-export services, real estate, and six years in food delivery, she highlights how flexible work can help women achieve financial independence. She recently completed three-wheeler and four-wheeler driving training through ANEW, Anna Nagar, and continues to encourage women to build confidence and explore new opportunities through mobility. Together, stories of Mahalakshmi and Bhuvaneshwari showcase how Rapido Pink Mobility is driving safer travel, economic empowerment, and positive social change for women across Tamil Nadu.
