An awareness programme on women and child safety was organised on August 19, 2026, by the Women Development Committee of Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, in association with the Tamil Nadu Government’s Singham Penn Special Protection Force.
College Principal Dr. Ramasubbiah presided over the programme. College President Vijayaraghavan, Secretary Engineer Sridhar and Treasurer Alwarsamy were present. Self-Financing Section Director Prabhu and Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Alagesan delivered felicitation addresses.
Sub-Inspector Divya of the Singam Penn Special Protection Force participated as the special guest and interacted with the students on various aspects of personal safety. She advised the students to use mobile phones responsibly and avoid unnecessarily posting reels, personal photographs and videos on social media.
She also stressed the importance of ensuring personal safety while at home or alone. She informed the students that in case of any danger to themselves or other women, they could immediately call 1091, following which the Singam Penn Special Police Force would respond and take appropriate action.
Head Constable Parimala trained the students on downloading and using the women’s safety application launched by the Tamil Nadu Government through their mobile phones.
The students were also informed that the Singam Penn Special Police Force would remain ready at all times to ensure that women in Tamil Nadu can move about freely without fear or apprehension.
A total of 1,091 students participated in the programme and benefited from the awareness session.
Earlier, Women Development Committee Coordinator Dr. Vishnusuba welcomed the gathering, while Assistant Coordinator Dr. Parimala proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was organised by the Women Development Committee of Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College.
