Fatima College Workshop Focuses on Quality Research and Funding Opportunities

The Research and Development Cell of Fatima College (Autonomous), Madurai, organised a one-day workshop on “Crafting Quality Research Papers and Identifying Funding Opportunities” on August 26, 2026, at 10.00 a.m. The workshop was organised with the objective of strengthening the research and publication skills of faculty members and enhancing their awareness of national and international research funding opportunities.


Dr. J. Karthikeyan, Assistant Professor of English, National College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, served as the resource person for the workshop. He provided valuable insights into the various stages involved in developing a high-quality research paper and highlighted the importance of systematic research, appropriate methodology, academic writing and effective presentation of research findings. Dr. Sr. M. Fatima Mary, Principal, extended her support for the programme. Dr. N. Malathi Associate Professor of Zoology Department and Dr. N. Asha, Head and Associate Professor of MBA Department coordinated and facilitated the organisation of the workshop.


The session also focused on publishing ethics, journal selection and strategies for identifying suitable publication avenues. Participants were guided on how to improve the quality and structure of research papers and select appropriate journals for disseminating their research findings.


A significant component of the workshop was devoted to research funding opportunities. The resource person introduced participants to national and international funding agencies and discussed ways of identifying suitable grant opportunities. He also explained important strategies for preparing effective research proposals, with emphasis on presenting a clear research idea, establishing its significance and developing a well-structured funding proposal.


The workshop provided an interactive platform for faculty members to enhance their research competencies, understand contemporary publication practices and explore opportunities for securing research grants. The programme was aimed at fostering a stronger research culture and encouraging faculty members to undertake impactful and sustainable research.


The programme concluded with an emphasis on the importance of quality research, ethical publication practices and proactive engagement with funding opportunities. The workshop was considered a valuable initiative towards strengthening research excellence and creating greater research impact in higher education.
