The Kovai Sahodaya Schools Complex (KSSC) began its 10th Annual Athletic Meet–2026 at the prestigious Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore on Monday. The three-day event, being held from August 17 to 19, brings together more than 40 schools from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode and Karur districts.
The inaugural ceremony was held at 8 a.m. with Dr. N. Kannan, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, as the Chief Guest. The National Flag was hoisted by Dr. N. Kannan, while the Olympic Flag was hoisted by Dr. Kavidasan, Secretary, Sachidananda Kallar. Mr. Mahesh Narayanan, Principal of PA International School and Vice-President of KSSC, hoisted the KSSC Flag.
The meet features track and field competitions in the Under-12, Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories. A Kiddies Meet for children aged 6 to 10 years is also being conducted.
The event includes a March Past, band performance, VIP Call, ceremonial welcome and the lighting of the Olympic Torch. Contingents representing the Armed Forces include SSM Central School for the Army, SJN School, Kallar for the Air Force and Stanes School CBSE for the Navy.
The meet is being organised under the leadership of KSSC President Girish Eswaran, Principal of PSG Public Schools, along with Vice-President Mahesh Narayanan, Secretary S. Padmanaban, Treasurer Uma Maheshwari, Joint Secretary Eileen Jethro and other office bearers.
The event aims to promote discipline, teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship and excellence among young athletes while providing them with a platform to showcase their sporting talent.
