The TVK government, headed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, is functioning as a government that is fulfilling the promises made in its election manifesto one by one. As the next step towards fulfilling the promise made in the election manifesto to expand the breakfast scheme, currently being provided to students from Classes 1 to 5 in government and government-aided schools, up to Class 8, the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme is now being extended to students of Classes 6 to 8 as well.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will launch the scheme in Chennai on September 22, 2026 (Tuesday). Through this expansion, 1,530,141 students studying in Classes 6 to 8 in 15,910 government and government-aided schools across Tamil Nadu will benefit from the expanded breakfast scheme.
“The expansion of this scheme is yet another testimony to our commitment to fulfilling what we promised in the election manifesto and demonstrating it through action. It is the objective of our government to fulfil, one by one, the promises made with the welfare and educational progress of students in mind.
We will not leave the promises made to the people as mere announcements; instead, we will transform them into action plans and implement them.
On this occasion, I am delighted to extend my greetings to all the students who will benefit under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme, as well as the teachers and nutrition workers involved in the programme.
