The Department of Physics of Madurai Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, in association with Sunday Class organisations, organised a workshop to help students understand and solve complex problems in quantum physics with ease. The workshop was held in memory of Professor S.V.M. Sathyanarayana, Professor in the Department of Physics at Pondicherry University.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Jayabalakrishnan, Head of the Department of Physics. College Principal Dr. Ramasubbaiah delivered the presidential address. College Chairman VijayRaghavan, Secretary Sridhar and Treasurer Alwarsamy delivered their felicitation addresses.
Special guests included Shithikantha Prasad Mishra, a scientist at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, experts who have benefited from the Sunday Class initiative and are now leading scientists and researchers, and Joseph Prabhakar, Special Officer of the Tamil Nadu State Higher Education Council.
The experts explained complex concepts and theories in quantum physics in a simple and clear manner to the students. They also provided useful information on employment opportunities available in central and State research organisations.
More than 110 postgraduate students, research scholars and professors from various colleges across Tamil Nadu participated in the workshop.
The programme was organised by the professors of the Department of Physics. Dr. Sangeetha, the programme coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks.
