The New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB, T-2) of Chennai International Airport is currently undergoing operational trialsas part of migration process, where in all airports International operations of existing T-4 & T-3 is being shifted to the New Terminal in a calibrated manner. On 25.04.2023, Chennai had its had its first successful trial operationin NITB by US Bangla Airlines, after the terminal was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 08.04.2023.
Following the first trial operation, Indigo Airlines operated 03 flights, from the new terminal on 02.05.2023. Indigo operated on Chennai- Singapore (Arr & Dep) and Chennai- Kuwait (Dep) sectors on the day.
Today, i.e. on 03.05.2023, Air India operated from/to New terminal on Chennai- Singapore (Arr & Dep) sector. The trial operations went on smoothly withthe co-operation of all airport stakeholders, while passenger facilities including check-in, Immigration, Customs, ATRS, Baggage Handling Systems, Fixed Link Bridges &Aerobridgesweretested for ensuring seamless functionality. The trials will ensure that the terminal meets the highest standards of safety, functionality, passenger satisfaction and provide world class services to customers. The NITB/T2 has received positive feedback from transiting passengers, who have been impressed with the new terminal's state-of-the-art design, amenities and efficient processes.
More suchtrial operations are expected in coming days, as the narrow-body aircraft operators will shift operations to the new terminal in the third week of May. The trials will continue with multiple operators as the terminal stabilises to accommodate more and more operations each passing day, soon after the wide body trial operations would follow.
