Dhanush, a 20-year-old boy from Erode district, met with an accident on March 11, and was admitted to the Government Sanatorium Medical College Hospital in Erode. The medical team informed his parents that he was brain dead on the March 14. His family expressed their desire to donate his organs.
As per their wishes, the liver of the brain dead patient was removed and sent to Abirami Kidney Care Hospital in Erode in an ambulance within 15 minutes.
A 58-year-old man, who is undergoing liver treatment at Abirami Kidney Care, underwent a liver transplant on the orders of the Tamil Nadu Organ Transplant Society.
The treatment took place around 10 p.m. and continued till 9.30 a.m. the next morning. The surgery was led by doctor T. Saravanan and doctor Karthik Mathivanan's team. After about 12 hours of surgery, the doctor T. Saravanan declared that the patient was in good health. Abirami Kidney Care is the only hospital in Erode district that has been approved for liver transplantation by the Tamil Nadu government. This is the third successful liver surgery in the history of Erode.
