Refresher Training Camp for Journalists was held in Virudhunagar

The Press Information Bureau, Chennai, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, organized a one-day orientation camp for journalists today in Virudhunagar. The programme was presided over by Thiru M. Annadurai, Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau, Chennai and inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp.


The Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, a leading bank in the district, Mr. R. Pandiselvan participated and explained about the central government's bank loan schemes, especially the street vendor's financial assistance scheme, accident insurance and life insurance.


Mr. Devaraj Palanisamy, Joint Director, Megamalai Tiger Reserve explained the activities involved in protecting forests and wildlife and explained the role of journalists in this regard. District Industries Centre Junior Engineer Sethuraman and District Social Welfare Officer Sheela Sundari participated and explained the schemes implemented by their department.


Delivering the presidential address, Mr. Annadurai, Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau, Chennai, said that journalists should invent themselves in tune with the increasing science and technology and no matter how much technology develops, only reality will remain in the minds of the people and everything else will be temporary. He said that journalists should be aware of the schemes of the governments, as the common man will ask the press if they have doubts, and that journalists should have a greater role in taking simple schemes like accident insurance and life insurance to the people.


At the conclusion of the seminar, Smt. J. Vijayalakshmi highlighted the RNI.  More than 70 journalists attended the event.
