Parvathy Hospital, in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), held a significant demonstration at Parvathy Hospital in Chrompet to address the alarming rise in violence against medical professionals.
The Indian Medical Association has called for a 24-hour nationwide withdrawal of non-emergency and OPD services on August 17. The organisation also demanded justice for the victim and a central law to protect healthcare workers. Following the call, medicos from public as well as private health facilities joined protests across the country.
The event saw participation from over 200 doctors and senior IMA members, all united in their call for safer working conditions and respect for healthcare workers. Dr. S. Muthukumar, Founder & Chairman of Parvathy Hospital along with IMA team, led the event with a powerful message underscoring the urgency of the situation.
“The well-being of our healthcare workers is non-negotiable,” Dr. Muthukumar emphasized. “This demonstration is not only a demand for immediate action but also a plea for society to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of doctors and ensure their safety. Protecting those who save lives is a responsibility we all share.”
The demonstration drew widespread support from medical professionals across various specialties, all committed to advocating for a violence-free work environment in healthcare settings. The event highlighted the medical community's deep concern over the escalating incidents of violence and underscored the need for stringent protective measures.
Senior members & Office Bearers of the IMA - Tambaram Branch, Dr Rajavelu, Dr TN Ravi Shankar, Dr Umaiyal Murugesan, Dr Kasi, Dr Saravana Kumar, Dr Shakthesh and Dr Prasanth Pandiyan echoed these concerns, calling for stronger security protocols and legislative action to prevent further violence against medical personnel. The IMA's participation in the event signaled a unified stance in the fight for safer healthcare environments.
