Muthuthamizh Aayam – Tamil Literary Program at VMMC

The Vinayaka Chennai Campus organized a one-day event, Muthuthamizh Aayam, for Heads of Institutions (HoIs), faculty, and teachers on 25.10.2024 in fond memory of Thirukkural Semmal N. Manimozhiyanar. The event took place at the indoor auditorium of the Vinayaka Mission’s Chennai Campus.


Muthuthamizh Aayam is an annual celebration held in honor of the late Thirukkural Semmal N. Manimozhiyanar Aiyya. This 8th edition of the celebration not only commemorated his unwavering dedication to spreading the timeless wisdom of the Thirukkural globally but also recognized and empowered individuals contributing to the growth of Tamil literature and the empowerment of women.


School teachers and faculty were invited to participate in the event, which featured a series of enriching activities and discussions. The special dignitaries who graced the occasion were Dr. Shyamala Ramesh Babu (poet, writer, and professor), Dr. Parveen Sultana (poet, writer, and professor), and Mrs. Gayathri, DPI, Chennai.


The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Christiana Singh, Director of the School of Arts and Science. Following the welcome speech, Dr. Jayabharathi P., Assistant Director of the School of Arts and Science, presented the annual report of Muthuthamizh Aayam. Short introductory videos about VMCC and the life of Thirukkural Semmal N. Manimozhiyanar were shown to provide attendees with deeper insights into the event’s purpose.


A book titled Thayumanavar Manimozhiyanaar, compiled by Dr. Anuradha Ganesan, Director of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (Deemed to be University), was released during the event. The introduction to the book was presented by poet Marshal Murugan. The first copy of the book was released by the chief guest and was received by Mrs. Kamala Manimozhiyanar, Correspondent of Shri VKK, Madurai.


Dr. Anuradha Ganesan, Vice President of VMRF, delivered a special address, sharing significant anecdotes from her father’s life. Following her, Dr. Giri Rangaswami, Dean of CSR, VMRF-DU, spoke on the significance of Muthuthamizh Aayam. Dr. Parveen Sultana then addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of Muthuthamizh Aayam and the role of teachers in shaping students’ careers.


The morning session concluded successfully with the distribution of the Thirukkural Semmal N. Manimozhiyanar Ninaivu Aasiriyar Nanmani Virudhu awards, along with cash prizes of Rs. 5,000 each for the top five teachers. Additionally, 20 teachers received special recognition awards on stage. Dr. S.P. Sangeetha, Vice Principal of AVIT, delivered the vote of thanks.


After lunch, all the teachers were invited to register and participate in a panel discussion in Tamil on the topic “Empowering Students: The Role of Teachers in Higher Education Preparedness.” The panel focused on three critical aspects: Academic Preparedness, Emotional Preparedness, and a Career-Oriented Approach.


The event concluded with a special address by Dr. Shyamala Ramesh Babu, motivating teachers to help students adapt to the rapidly changing world. The program was a grand success, celebrating Tamil literature while providing a valuable forum for exchanging ideas and empowering students.
