Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology (SKCET), Kuniamuthur, Coimbatore held its 22nd Graduation Day ceremony on 12th October 2024 at the college premises. S. Malarvizhi, Chairperson and Managing Trustee, Sri Krishna Institutions presided over the Graduation ceremony and declared it open.
Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India, New Delhi participated as the Chief Guest and gave away the Degree Certificates to the successful candidates, and delivered the graduation day address.
Addressing the gathering, Prof.T.G.Sitharam, first congratulated the graduates for achieving a crucial milestone in their life.
In his speech, he highlighted the significant and disruptive roles the Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI are playing in the world today. He gave a few examples of how certain skills that could only be accomplished with years of labor and dedication are now possible for a product like CHAT GPT to reflect in just seconds.
He said that AI and Gen AI will take away many conventional job roles, and he cautioned that these two technologies will change the way we all function. Hence he appealed to the graduates to adapt to this new world order because the disruption that it (Generative AI) is creating is real, he said.
He urged them to be experts in digital skills, particularly in AI and Generative AI, irrespective of their stream. Otherwise they will not be relevant.He wanted them all to skill up and also develop compassion and empathy.
K. Adithya Managing Trustee, Sri Krishna Institutions and Dr. K.Sundararaman Chief Executive Officer, Sri Krishna Institutions were present. Dr. K. Porkumaran, Principal of the college welcomed and presented the graduation day report. In this ceremony, 1235 Graduates received their degree out of which 1099 received their undergraduate degrees and 126 received their post graduate degrees. The event also honoured the 34 rank holders.
In this programme Graduates, Deans, Heads of various Departments and the faculty members took part.
Speaking to the press and media after the graduation ceremony, Prof.T.G.Sitharam said that the council has taken steps to augment quality of engineering and management education with quality initiatives. "Our focus is on skilling the students while the students are in college," he said.
Focusing on the employability of students, AICTE has recently introduced 2 important portals to help all engineering colleges - AICTE Placement Portal and AICTE Career Portal.The former is for rural while the latter is for everyone where they can connect with the industry for jobs and learn news digital skills.
He added that the AICTE has a dedicated Internship Portal and it has 75000 companies registered in it. This is done to be an additional advantage to students besides the placement cell in their college.
Meanwhile, to assist students get hands-on experience, AICTE has introduced Idea Labs. This comes equipped with advanced equipment like 3D printers. Owing to the success of this, AICTE is in plans to roll out 150 such idea labs.
AICTE has also opened its course to working professionals via the Working Professional Program. An ITI degree holder can do a diploma and a diploma student can do B Tech. by attending classes physically.
When asked whether Computer Science Courses are taking over Core Engineering courses in Engineering institutions, he said 75,000 students pursue Civil Engineering 65,000 electrical engineering, 1,35,000 students pursue electronic and computer engineering while 95,000 pursue Mechanical Engineering in India. It is good for the country.
Today 6 lakh students pursue computer based courses, that's due to the market needs but in 2-3 years, core engineering with emerging technologies will be popular as emerging areas are very important to all.
