Continuing its mission to make Madurai a safer place for everyone, Meenakshi Mission Hospital has installed an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at the SP Office in Madurai. This initiative follows earlier installations at the historic Meenakshi Amman Temple and the Collector Office, ensuring critical government locations are equipped to handle sudden cardiac arrest emergencies.

Superintendent of Police Mr. Aravindan IPS and other senior police officials joined the hospital’s Accident and Emergency team, including paramedics and trainers, to inaugurate the device and demonstrate its use. Dr. B. Kannan, Medical Administrator, Mr. Sivakumar, General Manager - Marketing, Dr. Narendra Nath Jena, HOD and Senior Consultant, Department of Accident & Emergency, Dr. Prabhu, Department of Accident & Emergency and Dr. P.R. Subas Chandran, presented the device to Superintendent of Police Mr. Aravindan IPS.

An AED is a portable device that can restore a normal heart rhythm within minutes during sudden cardiac arrest, a condition in which the heart unexpectedly stops beating. Anyone, not just doctors, can use an AED by simply following the prompts and instructions. Along with the installation, Meenakshi Mission Hospital provided hands-on training for police personnel and the public on identifying cardiac arrest and performing CPR effectively.

Through these efforts, Meenakshi Mission reaffirms its commitment to community health and emergency preparedness. The hospital encourages all citizens to familiarize themselves with AED usage, as every minute counts in saving a life during cardiac emergencies.
