Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore Branch Office, as a part of its Standard Promotion activity at Educational Institutions has conducted an Student Chapter Orientation program with our MoU Institution @ National Institute of Technology, Trichy (NITT), emphasizing the critical role of standards in fostering innovation, ensuring quality, and driving industrial growth with emphasis on celebration of BIS’s legacy and its contributions to quality, safety, and sustainability and thus ensuring Consumer Protection to foster a culture of quality consciousness nation. This significant event was witnessed by more than 1200 students including faculties of NIT, Trichy.
Welcome address was given by Dr. K.Muthukumaran, BIS Chair Professor & Head, Dept. of Civil Engineering, sharing their experience and importance of such Student Chapter. He emphasized on the importance of Standards and Quality in the field of engineering and its role in shaping the Country’s infrastructure.
The event started with Manak Geet and Shri V. Ramesh, Director, BIS Coimbatore, highlighted the enduring commitment of BIS to excellence. He reflected on how BIS has served as a reliable pillar, guiding industries and safeguarding consumer interests through its steadfast dedication to quality and standards and the need & importance of active industry participation in developing and implementing standards to ensure quality and innovation. And also the students will be sensitized on BIS roles and responsibilities, Standardization, Certification & Quality and Hallmarking of Gold.
Also an engaging presentation on the standard promotion activities of BIS, shedding light on its ongoing efforts to strengthen industries through the adoption and implementation of robust standards, presentation on laboratory services, ecosystem of BIS, BIS care app and its relevance and their role in ensuring product compliance with standards.
The event promoted awareness about the critical role of standards in driving innovation, industrial growth, and sustainable development and the same was informed to the students. Through this program we reinforced the commitment of BIS to foster a quality-first culture, enhance stakeholder engagement, and leverage technology to create sustainable & inclusive standards with active involvement and cooperation of the Stakeholders. The BIS Coimbatore Branch remains committed to promoting standardization and quality assurance, empowering industries, and enhancing consumer safety for a better tomorrow.
