The Department of Commerce in Lady Doak College celebrated its Golden Jubilee with an inauguration ceremony on September 19, 2025, marking 50 years of academic excellence. The event brought together current and former students, faculty, and staff to honour the department's legacy and look toward its future. Followed by a prayer led by Dr. Mary Vinora Mercy H., Former Coordinator of B.Com Banking & Insurance.
The ceremony began with a welcome address from Dr. Vanitha Malarvizhi P, Head of the Department, who highlighted the department's contributions to commerce education. Principal Dr. Beulah Jeyashree R praised the department's growth from a small beginning to accommodating over a thousand students, and encouraged a passion for excellence.
The Chief Guest, Dr. RM. Nagammai, a former Head of the Department, shared personal stories of the department's journey from its "humble beginnings" to its current success. She credited this growth to the "timeless teamwork, enthusiasm, and energy" of the faculty, students, parents, and management. She also urged the faculty to pursue research guideship to help the department evolve into a research centre.
The event also featured felicitations by former Heads of the Department, including Dr. Latha S. Nair and Dr. Margaret T, who shared their experiences and future visions for the department. Dr. Rosy Godwin emphasized that the department's success is a result of "TEAM" (Together Everyone Achieve More).
A key highlight of the celebration was the launch of the Golden Jubilee Endowment Scholarships. The scholarships aim to provide financial aid to deserving students, ensuring that "talent and dedication should be the only prerequisites for a bright future".
The inauguration concluded with cultural events and a vote of thanks by Dr. Angel Christy Praveena C., Assistant Professor of the Department of Commerce, celebrating the department's rich history while igniting a collective spirit of optimism for its journey ahead. The Golden Jubilee celebrations will continue with a series of academically excellent events.
