Southern Railway's Chennai Division Conducts tree plantation drive as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign on 21 September 2025. Shri Shailendra Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division, initiated the tree plantation drive at RPF Parade Ground, Ayanavaram. Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Senior Officers, and staff members participated in the event.
The plantation drive was carried out at major stations, workshops, and railway colonies including Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore, Tiruttani, Jolarpettai, Velachery, Melmaruvattur, and Tambaram. With enthusiastic participation, over 1,500 saplings were planted across the division.
The ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva fortnight extends beyond cleanliness, focusing on waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability. Each day of the campaign is dedicated to a specific theme encouraging community engagement and environmental awareness. Key activities like
• Reduce, Reuse, Recycle initiatives
• Waste to Art projects
• Collective participation drives promoting responsible waste management.
The campaign also recognises the dedicated efforts of cleaning staff, whose work ensures sanitation and hygiene across railway premises, providing a safe and welcoming environment for passengers and employees.
With the plantation drive and ongoing cleanliness initiatives, Chennai Division is committed to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable railway network.
