Quality and Standards are Our First Priority in Telangana: N. Uttam Kumar Reddy

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad Branch Office, celebrated “Manak Mahotsava 2025” as part of the World Standards Day 2025 celebrations at The Manohar Hotel, Hyderabad. The programme was graced by Shri N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Civil Supplies and Food, Irrigation and CAD, Government of Telangana, as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by eminent dignitaries as Guests of Honour – Prof. K. Purushotham Reddy, Eminent Environmentalist and Retired Professor, Osmania University; Dr. Raja Rao, Principal, Osmania Medical College; Prof. Vasudev Varma, AI Scientist, IIIT Hyderabad; and Shri Suneeth Thatineni, Managing Director, CARO – First Water Box.


The celebration began with a vibrant classical dance performance by the students of CBIT, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. Shri P.V. Srikanth, Director & Head, BIS Hyderabad Branch, delivered the Welcome Address, while Smt. Sujata Tammadi, Director, BIS Hyderabad, read out the World Standards Day message.


Minister’s Address


Delivering his keynote address, Hon’ble Minister Shri N. Uttam Kumar Reddy stated,


“In Telangana, quality and standards are our first priority. The Government is implementing the prestigious Indiramma Illu project to provide homes for the poor, strictly adhering to the National Building Code framed by BIS. Every material used in this project is BIS certified. We have also formed a State-Level Committee, under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, to strengthen the quality ecosystem in the State.” 


He further added that the Government of Telangana fully supports BIS in building a quality-conscious state and will continue to extend cooperation to ensure safety and reliability in every sector. The Minister appreciated the efforts of BIS in reaching people, engaging youth through Standards Clubs, and nurturing a culture of quality across institutions. He also lauded BIS for developing over 23,000 Indian Standards during its 79 years of service, calling it a milestone in nation building.


Quality Pledge and Felicitations


Following the address, the Hon’ble Minister administered the Quality Pledge with all participants.

He also felicitated the best-performing mentors, Standards Clubs, industries, and State Government departments for their contribution to promoting quality and standards. A special highlight of the event was the “Manak Veer Awards”, presented to students of ZPHS Dharmaraopet, who have been spreading awareness on quality and standards through creative reels and videos on social media from a rural background. The Minister appreciated their enthusiasm and commitment to the national quality movement.

The event also featured technical presentations by eminent speakers linking Standards and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

The event witnessed the participation of around 350 delegates from industry, academia, government departments, consumer organizations, NGOs, and other stakeholders. The Manak Mahotsava 2025 concluded successfully, reinforcing BIS’s vision of “One Nation – One Quality” and strengthening the collective resolve to build a quality-driven and sustainable India.
