HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company, one of India’s leading private sector insurers, has been authorised by the Government of Tamil Nadu to implement the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for both loanee and non-loanee farmers in the districts of Cuddalore and Ranipet for the Rabi 2025 season. The scheme will cover crops notified by the Government of Tamil Nadu under PMFBY, with crop-specific cut-off dates for enrolment.
PMFBY provides comprehensive insurance protection to farmers against losses in crop yield due to natural calamities such as drought, floods, dry spells, landslides, cyclones, hurricanes, hailstorms, inundation, pests, and diseases. To assess yield loss, the State Government will conduct Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) on notified crops in designated areas. If the yield data from these experiments shows a shortfall, compensation will be paid to the affected farmers. The scheme offers coverage across all crop stages—pre-sowing, post-sowing, harvesting, and post-harvest.
All products under PMFBY are approved by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Tamil Nadu. Farmers in Cuddalore and Ranipet can enrol through their banks, Common Service Centres (CSCs), or authorised HDFC ERGO agents. Details of enrolment validity and crop coverage will be available on the Department of Agriculture website, and farmers can also register via the PMFBY portal at https://pmfby.gov.in/farmerLogin or through the Farmers App.
