Skoda Customers in Tirunelveli Allege Delay in Vehicle Registration

Customers of Skoda in Tirunelveli have alleged prolonged delays in the registration of newly purchased vehicles at the Regional Transport Office (RTO), causing severe inconvenience and mental distress. According to affected customers, the authorized Skoda dealership in the city has failed to complete vehicle registration formalities for more than three months, despite collecting the full payment and delivering the vehicles.

Customers claim that repeated representations made to the dealership have not yielded any clear or satisfactory response. Instead, they allege that the dealership has been routinely postponing the registration process by offering vague assurances such as “today,” “tomorrow,” or “next week,” without taking any concrete steps. This continued inaction has forced at least one aggrieved customer to consider approaching the Consumer Court for legal remedy.

The issue comes at a time when Skoda Auto India has been recording steady growth in the Indian automobile market. Under its “India 2.0” strategy, the company has introduced models such as the Kushaq, Slavia, and Kodiaq, which have received a positive response from Indian consumers. The expansion of its sales and service network, coupled with competitive pricing and European engineering, has helped Skoda position itself as an emerging premium mass-market brand in India.

However, customers in Tirunelveli allege that the situation at the local dealership, Aura Skoda, stands in sharp contrast to the brand’s stated customer-centric approach. One affected customer stated that he escalated the issue to Skoda Auto India’s corporate officials via email and received assurances that the problem would be resolved immediately. Despite this, no corrective action has reportedly been taken at the dealership level.

As a result, several customers who have already taken delivery of their vehicles are allegedly forced to drive without number plates for months. This has exposed them to repeated questioning during police checks and financial penalties at toll plazas during outstation travel, further aggravating their hardship.

Following the lack of response, an affected customer has decided to initiate legal proceedings, seeking compensation for deficiency in service and mental agony. The proposed complaint is expected to seek action against both the dealership for negligence and Skoda Auto India for failing to ensure accountability. The customer has also indicated plans to coordinate with other similarly affected Skoda customers in Tirunelveli.
