The Tamil Nadu Retired College Teachers’ Association (TANRECTA), a registered State-level body functioning since 2000 with 33 branches across Tamil Nadu, has constituted a three-member committee to conduct elections for its State office-bearers, as the current term of the Office Bearers comes to an end in March 2026. The decision was taken at the State executive committee meeting held in Tiruchi on February 5, 2026.
The association has been actively engaged in safeguarding the welfare of retired college teachers by facilitating pension-related matters, submission of life certificates, settlement of family pensions, and providing guidance on administrative procedures. It also assists members during medical emergencies and helps streamline reimbursement processes under medical insurance schemes. Acting as a liaison with government departments, higher education authorities, and treasury officials, the association has been addressing pensioners’ grievances and collaborating with other teachers’ bodies to represent education-related demands to the government. It has also been involved in various social welfare initiatives.
The present State office-bearers include: President Prof. Swaminathan (Chennai), Vice-President Prof. Mathu (Salem), General Secretary Prof. Manoharan (Madurai), Joint Secretaries Prof. Muhammed Riyas Iqbal (Villupuram) and Prof. Rohini Devi (Madurai), and Treasurer Prof. Gnanasekaran (Mayiladuthurai).
As per the resolution passed at the meeting, the election committee comprises Prof. K. John Kumar, former professor of Bishop Heber College, Tiruchi, as Convenor, with Prof. M. Abdul Kadir, former Principal of Wakf Board College, Madurai, and Prof. G. Manivannan, former professor of Government College, Pudukkottai, as members.
According to Prof. Abdul Kadir, a member of the election committee, elections will be held to fill seven State-level posts — President, General Secretary and Treasurer (one each), and two posts each for Vice-President and Joint Secretary, with representation from both male and female members.

If more than one nomination is received for any post, polling will be conducted on March 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sri Sangeethas Hotel Hall, near the Central Bus Stand, Tiruchi.
