A large-scale tree plantation drive involving the planting of 10,000 saplings was carried out on grazing land under Kondampatti Panchayat in Kinathukadavu Panchayat Union. The initiative was undertaken under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding by a private charitable organization and was inaugurated by Coimbatore Collector Pavan Kumar G. Giriyappanavar.

The event was attended by Block Development Officers Mohan Babu, Rajesh Kumar (Kinathukadavu), Saravanan, and Kalarani (Sulur Panchayat Union), Water Tech Chief Human Resources Officer Lionel Paul David, representatives of the charitable organization, government officials, and students from Easa College of Engineering and Technology.

Speaking at the event, the District Collector stated that the district administration has been continuously implementing various initiatives to promote environmental conservation and public awareness on sustainability. As part of these efforts, an afforestation project is being implemented in the Kondampatti area through the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.

With the support of Water Tech, several environmental projects have already been undertaken in the region, including groundwater recharge measures. The Collector noted that the land where the saplings were planted had previously remained unused and is now being transformed into a productive green zone for environmental and social benefit.

He commended Water Tech and its team for their continued contribution to environmental protection, water conservation, and forest development initiatives. Emphasizing the importance of improving groundwater resources in the area, he said that several measures have been implemented, including groundwater recharge ponds, rainwater harvesting structures, restoration of unused borewells, and the creation of new water-resource facilities.

The Collector further stated that adequate irrigation facilities have been arranged for the newly planted saplings. Plans are also underway to cultivate fodder crops in the area for livestock. The harvested fodder will be distributed to local farmers, providing additional benefits to the agricultural community.

Addressing the students who participated in the programme, he urged them not only to plant trees but also to monitor their growth and actively engage in environmental conservation efforts. He encouraged them to revisit the site after a year to assess the growth of the saplings and evaluate the impact of the project.

Earlier in the day, the District Collector inspected desilting work carried out on a 3.55-acre pond in Thegani village of Pachapalayam Panchayat under Sulthanpet Panchayat Union. He reviewed the functioning of the project, discussed measures to enhance groundwater levels during the monsoon season, and examined how the restored waterbody would benefit surrounding agricultural lands. Officials concerned briefed him on the implementation and expected outcomes of the initiative.
