CUTN Celebrates International Yoga Day with Over 700 Participants

Marking the 12th International Day of Yoga with the theme, "Yoga for healthy ageing", the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) in Neelakudi organised a mass yoga session at the CUTN campus today, drawing over 700 participants, including faculty, staff, and students.


The celebrations commenced with the screening of the Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi’s special yoga day address, following which live demonstrations of various asanas were performed on stage by the faculty and students of the Department of Physical Education and Sports. Subsequently, the massive gathering comprising university students, faculty, staff, NCC cadets, students from the Kendriya Vidyalaya CUTN, and students from the M.Voc. Yoga programme offered by the CUTN Centre for Skill Development in collaboration with the World Community Service Centre (WCSC), Aliyar, lined up to perform yoga in unison. Additionally, more than 1,000 students from the collaborative CUTN-WCSC M.Voc. Yoga programme performed yoga at their respective centres across Tamil Nadu.


Prof. Sulochana Shekhar, Vice Chancellor (in-charge), presided over the event in the presence of Prof. R. Thirumurugan, Registrar, and performed yoga asanas along with the students. While addressing the participants during the event, Prof. Sulochana Shekhar emphasised that yoga is indispensable for a healthy life and urged everyone to integrate it into their daily routines.
