The Research Centre and Department of Economics, Lady Doak College, organised a National Level Students' Seminar on "Elinor Ostrom's Governing the Commons for Sustainable Development" in hybrid mode at the J.X. Miller Auditorium on September 18, 2026.
Dr. M. Helen Mary Jacqueline, Dean of Academic Affairs (Humanities), Associate Professor and Head, Department of Economics, Lady Doak College, delivered the welcome address. In her chief guest address, Ms. Swetha Shree, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai, spoke on Elinor Ostrom's contribution to the governance of common resources and its relevance to sustainable development.
As part of the seminar, 20 thematic papers and 9 posters were presented in hybrid mode, covering sub-themes such as the theory of common-pool resources, principles for governing the commons, institutional economics and collective action, and the applications of Ostrom's ideas in Indian policy contexts.
A total of 195 students and research scholars took part in the seminar, including participants from Widia Poorna Prajana Pre-University College, Bengaluru; Ethiraj College; Gandhigram University; Marudhar Kesari Jain College, Vaniyambadi; Vivekananda College; Thiagarajar College; and Madura College.
