The Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology organized a five days “VCS-Hands on training in Data Analysis and Visualization with R Programming, from 29th July to 2nd August 2024” at CPMB&B, TNAU, Coimbatore. Participants included faculty, PG, PhD students from various Institutes, industries viz., Kolur Research farm, Bangalore, Providence Women's College, Kozhikode, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, Krishnankoil, ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute and post-graduate students from TNAU.
The training program started with the inaugural session on 29th July. Director (CARDS) and Dean (SPGS), HOD of Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, faculty from CPMB graced the occasion. The training program commenced with an inaugural function, beginning with a welcome address by Dr. A. John Joel, Professor and Head of the Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics. He emphasized the significance of data analysis and R programming in research. This was followed by self-introduction from the participants.
Dr. D. Suresh Kumar, Director of CARDS and Dean (SPGS), delivered the felicitation address. He highlighted the importance of data analysis using R, shared his own research experiences, and discussed the pivotal role of data analysis. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. E. Kokiladevi, Professor and Head of the Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
The hands-on session was delivered by the faculties from Bioinformatics department Dr. N Saranya AP (Bioinformatics), Dr. T.T. Dhivyaprabha (Project Scientist) and Dr. Santosh Ganapati Patil AP (Statistics), TNAU. The Participants were given Hands on experience in R programming specifically focused on the data analysis such as basic statistical analysis such as R programming fundamentals, data interfaces, R packages, basics of statistical concepts, correlation, covariance, regression, chi-squared test, ANOVA, hypothesis testing, data wrangling, exploratory data analysis, PCA, Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), PLS Analyses for Genomics (plsgenomics), lme4GS: An R-Package for Genomic Analysis, RNA-seq Differential Gene Expression Analysis and Data visualization.
